Paramore lawsuit over “The Only Exception” dropped.
So it was revealed today by Fueled By Ramen that the lengthy lawsuit that claimed Paramore had stolen the chord progression for “The Only Exception” from lesser known band Tenspoke Indies. Listening to both of the songs, it’s clear that there’s a slight similarity but not enough to pursue and win a lawsuit. A little bit stupid considering the legal costs, that I doubt a fairly unknown band will now be able to pay! I’m sure you’re all familiar with The Only Exception, so here’s the alleged original song “Starlighter” by Tenspoke Indies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxev0Z-3BGE What do you guys think?
McFly Live Review
McFly – The Keep Calm and Play Louder Tour Sheffield City Hall 9/3/2012 First off, I know what you’re thinking. What is a 20 year old doing going to see McFly? I’ll answer you that question. Because I absolutely adore them. From when I was 11 years old seeing McFly at least once a year was mandatory, and I still haven’t grown out of the tradition. I’d concentrated all my excitement and energy on The Keep Calm and Play Louder tour for months, and I was finally going to witness it! On arriving at the City Hall, it was pretty obvious that apart from the array of mums chaperoning hysterical girls, me and my boyfriend were probably the oldest people there. I’d forgotten how much hype surrounds the four boys, as they’ve always just been musicians in my eyes. I’m not a huge fan of McFly’s most recent album, Above The Noise, so I was a little disappointed that they chose to open the show with “Nowhere Left To Run”. But not as disappointed as I was when the fire alarm went off. Yes you heard me right. The entire building was evacuated during the 2008 hit “One For The Radio”, due to the smoke machine. I honestly despair. After we were eventually let back in, the boys managed to get the show back on track. There’s no question that their performance was utterly jaw dropping. The musical talent that radiates from Tom, Dougie, Danny and Harry has no end. No matter how determined you are to dislike McFly, there is no denying that they are brilliant musicians and amazingly witty songwriters. The night consisted of most of the hits, including the infectious “All About You” and first single “5 Colours In Her Hair”. The guys also showcased three brand new songs and even played a few B sides that I thought were lost forever! All I can say to describe the night is that it was truly amazing. It’s wonderful to see the boys still doing so well after nearly 9 years in the business. They have true talent, and that’s definitely a rare occurrence nowadays. 9/10
It’s that time of year yet again…
For the Slam Dunk Festival announcements! Yaaay! It’s no secret that I love the Slam Dunk Festival, it’s always an amazing day to hang out and listen to awesome music. So last year was Ska crazy for the 10th anniversary, and this year the gang seem to have gone in a bit of a haphazard direction, sticking with their trademark pop punk, but throwing a few curveballs in there too. Taking Back Sunday, Architects and The King Blues seem to be the big three on the list, along with Mayday Parade, Forever The Sickest Kids and more. It’s not the best line up I’ve seen from Slam Dunk, but being a low budget, independent company I think it’s pretty decent. I’ll definitely be there. Tickets on sale tomorrow at 9am!
Blink 182 name their upcoming tour.
Blink 182 have announced that their upcoming American and European tour will now be a 20th anniversary celebration. I can’t believe that Blink have been around for 20 years! That’s basically my entire life time. The tour in question for the UK, are the rescheduled dates from last year. I’m excited to see the guys live again, but as I’ve had to wait a whole year since I actually bought the tickets, I’m losing the initial excitement. Hopefully Blink will put on a brilliant show and prove me wrong! I’m really looking forward to seeing All American Rejects too!
The Kerrang! Tour Review.
The Kerrang! Tour Manchester Academy 15/2/12 Written by Faye Ducker After completely losing all shred of respect for Sum 41 due to their cancellation, the Manchester leg of the Kerrang Tour was about one thing, and one thing only for me: New Found Glory. The other bands playing were barely a blip on my radar compared with the elation of seeing my favourite guys live for the fifth time. In hindsight, I was being a little ignorant. Having gotten there late, letlive were just starting up when I arrived. I knew that I wasn’t a fan of their music, so I had no intention to watch their set, but my friends had other ideas. Begrudgingly, pint in hand, I stood and I watched. My first reaction was laughter. The lead singer flung himself around the stage with an admirable insanity. Singing entire songs with a bath towel wrapped around his head and doing kick ups with his microphone. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it, and I’ve seen a lot of bands! Kudos to letlive for playing an insane show and proving me wrong. After an hour of carefully avoiding The Blackout’s set, it was finally time for the main event. Amidst chants of “NFG”, New Found Glory took to the stage, launching their epic set with “All Downhill From Here”, an instant crowd pleaser. Throughout the set I danced like a crazy person and sang every word until I literally couldn’t speak. The entire crowd was going crazy too. It was like being 13 years old again, no problems and no thoughts apart from the music. The guys played a killer set, making sure that they played a decent selection of hits, as well as tracks from their newest album “Radiosurgery”. New Found Glory are a rare kind nowadays. A band that has been around for 15 years, constantly on tour, constantly creating new music with out ever losing sight of their goals. And in the words of Chad Gilbert as they close the show: “New Found Glory will be a band forever”. 9/10
With my welcome back to Tumblr…
I’m going to write quite an angry post. So I’m off to the Kerrang! Tour in a couple of weeks, positively wetting myself with excitement at the thought of seeing New Found Glory again, and I was really excited about seeing Sum 41, purely for the nostalgia factor, I mean let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to jump around to Fat Lip with a bunch of middle aged men. So imagine my disappointment when I found out they had pulled out of the tour, I was pretty upset. But not as upset as I was when I found out who was replacing them. The Blackout. Who on Gods green earth at the Kerrang! office thought that The Blackout, of all the bands in the world, would be an appropriate substitute for Sum 41? Their music, style and personas are worlds apart, and you’d think that Kerrang! would realise this. But being the mag’s band of the minute, I’m sure they didn’t really think of who Sum 41 fans would have wanted for a replacement. Now I understand that it was short notice and that somebody would have to step in, but surely a fair few other bands were available and would jump at the chance to play such a high profile tour. So I’m a little deflated about the situation, but I am interested to see what angry Sum 41 fans make of The Blackout.
Yellowcard - Manchester Academy 2 live review.
Yellowcard Live Review Manchester Academy 2 30/11/2011 Written by Faye Ducker With so many bands touring the UK at the minute, I’d almost forgotten that I had tickets to see Yellowcard. They’ve been a big part of my life since I was a kid, but they had recently faded into the background a little for me. As I’m sure most pop punk fans in their early twenties will admit, Yellowcard’s Ocean Avenue album is a work of genius, and will always remind me of being a careless teenager. Definitely the main reason I was so intrigued to see them perform live. Would they still have the violin-fuelled, melodic magic they managed to capture on that album? Having only seen bands at the Manchester Academy before, I assumed that Academy 2 would be the same just a little smaller. It’s safe to say that I was wrong. It is probably one of the worst venues I’ve been in. It looked like an exact replica of my Primary School assembly hall. Not really somewhere you’d expect a pop punk show. However, when Yellowcard hit the stage, there was no denying that it definitely was a pop punk show. A pop punk show that had the energy of a bunch of hyperactive children. Opening with “For You And Your Denial” was a flawless start to the set, really exposing the band’s talent as a unit. The show flowed effortlessly, with no mistakes or mishaps; it was blatantly obvious that they meant every note of the songs they played. The set list provided a quick overview of all of their albums, concentrating a little more heavily on When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes. The major highlight of the night for me, and one of the most emotional experiences of my life, was finally hearing Ocean Avenue played live. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun at a show. I can’t remember the last time I properly jumped around and got excited, I thought I’d left those things behind with my childhood. I was wrong. It just took the right band to drag it out of me again, and that band was Yellowcard. Rating: 9/10
Paramore release studio version of “In The Mourning”
So Paramore have finally released the studio version of “In The Mourning”, the third and final song to come out of the band’s Singles Club. Having heard the song already, as the band often play it live, this release was the least exciting for me. I do really enjoy the studio version, I just wish it was a bit more haunting. The lyrics are very sad and moving, I don’t think this reflects in the fairly upbeat guitars. Having said this, it is my favourite of the three released. And if you’re cheap (like me) and can’t afford to join the Singles Club, you can listen to the studio version on YouTube. For free! Here is the link:

too bad avp turned blink 182's song into winter magic Fair enough if that’s your opinion, but I think it’s horrific. Ruined a great song. |
